Domaine François LAMARCHE -- 2013s from Cask

Domaine François LAMARCHE (Vosne-Romanée)

2013s  from Cask

Niclole Lamarche said that harvesting here began on October 6. All wines were made with 30% whole clusters. Chaptalization was on the order of 1º. There was quite a bit of triage as the maturity of the grapes was quite uneven. Nicole said that one problem the vintage posed was how to judge when to stop extraction in order to avoid getting herbal qualities. As you can see below, I think that the task was successfully accomplished. New oak is a maximum of 30% here, except for the Grande Rue, where it is 50%.

2013 Bourgogne    Pinot Noir
This wine is smooth and long with some tannins showing beneath the red fruits. There’s a feeling of lightness in the mouth. (84-88)

2013 Bourgogne-Hautes Côtes des Nuits
The nose here is spicy. The wine is nervier than the Bourgogne, medium-light, and wiry. (84-88)

2013 Vosne-Romanée
The village Vosne is medium-light with a velvet texture and long dark fruits. (86-90)

2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru – Les Chaumes
The Chaumes is smooth in texture with red and dark fruit. It’s less dense than the foregoing wines. (87-91)

2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru – Les Suchots
Lamarche’s Suchots is medium-weight and smooth with good density to its red fruits. (90-93)

2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru – La Croix Rameau
From an enclave in the northeast corner of Romanée-Saint-Vivant, this wine is very pretty with good density, smoothness, harmony, and length. No new wood on this wine. (91-95)

2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru – Aux Malconsorts
The Malconsorts shows darker fruit. The wine is light on the palate and has suggestions of power, even though there is quite a bit of finesse for Malconsorts here. Excellent length in this wine. (92-95)

2013 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru – Aux Cras
Some of the vines here have been ripped out for replanting, adding to the rarity of the wine. It is dark and fresh but with structure. Very good length and depth here. (90-94)

2013 Echézeaux
This wine is fresh and sensual with nice structure and good finesse, density, and length – a very good Echézeaux. (92-95)

2013 Clos-Vougeot
The Clos-Vougeot shows black, and red raspberry fruit typical of the vineyard. The wine has good sensuality for Clos-Vougeot, but the tannins on the finish are significant, so this may be one 2013 Clos-Vougeot that does require significant aging. (91-94)

2013 Grands-Echézeaux
The wine is dark, sensual, intense, and deep with excellent density. It is a very fine representative of the terroir of Grands-Echézeaux. (93-97)

2013 La Grande Rue
The estate’s monopole, with La Tâche to the south and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Romanée-Conti, La Romanée, and Reignots to the north, is dark, smooth, elegant, and long with some sensuality and excellent intensity and development in the mouth. (94-98)
